Yesterday when I was young I never imagined that one day I’d own a coffee house. Now here I am a proud owner of a small individual coffee house named after the historic building it’s located in. The Royal Bean Coffee House represents good feelings and good times. The Royal Bean is something I’ve been waiting for all along, but I never knew it. Here I sit in my coffee house by the window looking outside at the fading daylight. I see a brooding overcast evening to make coffee sound oh so good. I look out and see the gently melancholy wind blowing through the tops of the trees. It feels like home in here. It feels like family in here.

Owning a small business isn’t a pipe dream. Neither is it what it’s cracked up to be. If you’re looking to get rich, then you’re probably better off staying away from owning a small business. It’ll enrich you in other ways, though. I’ve always thought that nothing in life has meaning without the people you have to share it with. You can see a supernova of a sunset, but without people to share it with you’ll just see the end of another day. The Royal Bean is a community gathering place even if you walk into our doors alone.

We’re not just another coffee house. The Bean is an experience. If it’s not what you hoped for, then we’ll turn it into something better. We’re stuck in an old historic bread factory. We’re in a nondescript brick building with aging landscaping. When we tell people we’re located between Ben and Jerry’s and the Brick house, then they can find us. If we tell people we are across from the front gates of Meredith College, then they say which side is the front! We’re on the Hillsborough St. side. We don’t have a big sign or a massive marketing machine to bring attention to ourselves. We’re not a franchise with deep pocket. We’re just a lonely little coffee house, but we care about it like its home. When you come inside, then it can be your home for a little while. Ha! I’m here so much it literally is my home. I love it!

A small business supports your local economy and local community which is our objective at the Bean. I know you hear these words often these days. It’s not just a marketing campaign, though small businesses certainly need all the attention they can get. We just want to get the word out that we live here and care about our stores because we have built them with our love and bare hands. We support our local economy by purchasing our freshly roasted coffee only minutes from the Royal Bean. We purchase our bakery goods from Raleigh. We could order our cups and paper goods through the Internet or Sam’s, but we get what we need from a locally owned business two minutes from the Bean. Now not everything we get is from local businesses, but when the opportunity exist that’s our first choice we try to make happen. I’m not going to be silly and say we milk our own cows, but we do what we can do to have our products as fresh and delicious as possible. We serve happiness here. The Royal Bean Coffee House will have to close early today, April 15th. We’re closing at 6 PM tonight, but this is only for today’s hours. Unless I post otherwise the hours will remain the same for the rest of the week.

Just roasted Single origin whole bean coffee just delivered

I just got back after having picked up our freshly roasted coffee. It was roasted here in Raleigh this morning. Our whole bean single origin whole bean coffee that I just delivered includes the following: Sumatra Mandheling Triple Picked, Kenya AA Plus Lyego, and for our decaf we have Colombia Supremo. We’re making a few pots for you right now! : )

It’s Tuesday, March 27, 2012 and only 51 outside. Drop by the Royal Bean Coffee House today for some of our first-class freshly drip brewed coffee. I just drove out to our roaster (Stockton and Graham) to pick up our single origin whole bean coffee. It was roasted this morning and I personally delivered it to my coffee house. Our coffee is premium because we maintain a high standard in quality by using whole bean coffee that has been freshly roasted and by not allowing our drip brewed coffee to sit around getting cold and stale. We use the same standards in all our coffee drinks hot and cold. Our single origin coffee this week is Guatemala La Cascada and Sumatra Mandheling Triple Picked, and our decaf is Columbia Supremo.

Jasmins just opened today next to the Royal Bean! They’re a “Mediterranean bistro, which uniquely blends both Greek and Lebanese (eastern Mediterranean) cuisines.”

The Inside of a Coffee Bean

Gotcha! This isn’t a picture of the inside of a coffee bean. It is however what the Royal Bean Coffee House looks like indoors. Last night after closing when our customers cleared out I had an idea. I wanted people who haven’t been to the Royal Bean but who visit us online to see what they’re missing. These couple of images shows the spaciousness of the Royal Bean. There’s plenty of seating for students to study, professionals to hold meetings, and for social groups. Come in alone if you want. In fact, we encourage it. In my personal opinion even when I want to just be alone to read, study, or play with my computer, it’s still nice to be around people. We’re all family here. So don’t be surprised if we treat you so.

We’re a terrific place for social or business meet ups. Pull a few of our tables together or sit on our couches and play games, meet with your clients, socialize, or just relax. Nothing beats a warm and welcoming artistic atmosphere where you’re not hassled to buy something. Of course we need your business because it helps us to stay in business. But we also strive to keep things casual and enjoyable for everybody. Drop by for a cup of Joe or whatever drink we have that meets your fancy! We don’t close until 11PM every day except Sunday which we close at 10PM. We’re waiting for you with open arms!

I just picked up another order of our coffee that was roasted this morning, which includes, Guatemala La Cascada, Columbian Supremo Decaf, and our signature Midnight Lotus espresso blend provided by S&G. It’s an unusually warm winter day, so drop by for an iced coffee, frappe, flavored Italian sodas, or a fruit smoothie!
